Due to the Governor lifting the mask and capacity restrictions, we are Landry’s is not requiring its guests to wear masks. Only its staff members are still required to wear masks. As always, we ask that everyone please be respectful to all others and please wear your mask if you prefer.
Barbara Cargill is a science educator and founder and director of Wonders of the Woodlands (WOW!) Science Camp. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University and a Master of Science degree in Science Education from Texas Woman’s University. Having taught high school science for almost 10 years, she was the recipient of many teaching awards including a National Excellence Award for science teaching. Her interest in creative learning for children motivated her to create the WOW! program in 1994.
Barbara also served on the Texas State Board of Education representing District 8. She was elected to four, 4-year terms beginning in 2005 and served until her recent retirement on January 1, 2021. In addition, Barbara had the honor of being appointed twice by Governor Rick Perry to a two-year term as chairwoman of the State Board in 2011 and 2013.
Barbara is especially proud to have established the State Board’s annual Student Hero Program which recognizes 15 students across Texas who demonstrate character and integrity by showing kindness to other students.
Barbara has been married for 36 years. She has three sons, a daughter-in-law and one granddaughter.
