Promoting Republican Philosophy Through Education & Community

History

The club changed its name to The Woodlands Republican
Women in 2000 to better represent the club’s purpose. The
club continued to meet in the evening at the Forum until
2009 when TWRW board decided to move monthly
meetings to a daytime luncheon. On September 9, 2009,
the club held its first luncheon meeting at Landry’s Seafood
House with Julia Morton as president. TWRW continues to
hold monthly luncheon meetings at Landry’s in The Woodlands.

In addition, TWRW supports many worthy causes and
community outreach opportunities. Community activities
that club members have and continue to support include:
Montgomery County Women’s Center, Montgomery County
Food Bank, CASA, sponsor Oak Ridge High School Young
Republicans Club, and support students and staff at Sam
Houston Elementary School. TWRW also supports The USO
and the Lone Star Survivor Foundation.

The Woodlands Republican Women (TWRW) club began in
1987. The club originally was called Pathfinders. It began
under the leadership of Rikki Teal when 12 women began
meeting in member’s homes. The objective in forming the
club was to promote the Republican Party by encouraging
Republicans to vote and run for office. Over time,
membership increased and meetings were held monthly in
the evening at The Forum at The Woodlands in Panther Creek.

Today, the club continues to grow with many enthusiastic
and dedicated women under the leadership of the current
president, Layne Carrell. With the objective of keeping
Montgomery County and Texas “RED," TWRW actively
promotes Republican ideals while supporting Republican
elected officials and candidates for office. Club members
also serve as Republican Party precinct chairs as well as
election judges and clerks in local elections.
